A cop finds himself growing uncomfortable with his latest assignment in this study in the nature of power and authority from Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu. Cristi (Dragos Bucur) is a seasoned police detective who has just gotten married to Anca (Irina Saulescu) and wants to keep his superiors happy. Cristi's boss, Nelu (Ion Stoica), has ordered the detective to keep a close watch on Victor (Radu Costin), a teenager who is suspected of dealing drugs for a local cartel. Cristi has spent several weeks following Victor's actions and is certain that the kid smokes marijuana with his friends, but isn't any kind of drug pusher and should be left alone. Cristi is also aware that Romanian authorities are expected to relax their laws regarding drugs in the near future, making it all but pointless to possibly ruin Victor's life by bringing him in, but while Nelu understands Cristi's thinking, he's not so willing to let the youngster off so easily. The film never spells out in exactly what ways Harvey was a bad father, but it is clear he missed the boat when Susie asks her stepfather (James Brolin) to give her away. As Harvey leaves his heartbreak at the ceremony for an emergency work call, he misses his flight and gets fired. While nursing a whiskey at the airport bar, Harvey bumps into Kate (Emma Thompson), an airport employee escaping her own bad day with a glass of wine and a book. Suddenly taken by Kate's British charm, a tipsy Harvey bombards her with tales of his trouble. This unlikely trading of sob stories leads to lunch, a walk around London, and a day of unexpectedromance . Thompson is charming as Kate, a lonely middle-age woman struggling to deal with her mother's constant prying into her life. Despite not having had the best of luck inromance , Kate is an optimist at heart, and it's this spark for life that attracts Harvey and ultimately helps repair his image in his daughter's eyes. Never showy or too ambitious, Joel Hopkins's slow-pacedromance twists old clichés to suit a more adult audience. While not groundbreaking in its plot, LAST CHANCE HARVEY is saved by great performances from the always-solid Hoffman and the incredibly charming Thompson, who makes an otherwise familiar story feel fresh

Muallaf Malaysian Movie Review :

The late Yasmin Ahmad left a legacy that was hard to follow. She, one of Malaysia's most forward-thinking directors left a gaping hole when she passed away at the age of 51 in July 2009. Though her last movie "Talentime" was only released in March 2009, the powers-that-be, decided it appropriate to release her controversial long-awaited movie "Muallaf" in Malaysia at the end of 2009. Initially targeted for a July 2009 release, it was threatened with censorship that would affect the story's progress.

For the record, "Muallaf" had been released earlier in neighbouring Singapore to a much warm reception in December 2008 and due to the increasing demand, it was later re-released in February 2009.

Tiger Woods Women photos: divorce rumors

These women must have benefited from his more than billion dollar wealth tremendously. Their coming out in the open claiming to have slept with him shows that they are doing it to get as much money as possible.

They seem to have hit a jackpot in the form of Tiger Woods affair coming in the open and media grabbing the issue like nothing else.

A mistress has reportedly been paid as much as around three million dollars to keep the secrets close to her bosom.

Some critics argue that, throughout the controversy that began when Tiger Woods crashed his car outside his home on Thanksgiving, women alleged to have slept with him haven’t got a fair deal.

None of the women collectively labeled as ‘mistresses’ didn’t even get the benefit of being seen as an individual that Woods was given, for obvious reasons such as his financial prowess.

Taking up the charge of sexism further, the commentators said the media mentioned certain occupations out of proportion as if these very occupations have an inherent tawdry nature that make people involved in them morally weak.

The argument seems to true in the case of the waitresses and fashion models linked to Woods.

Describing Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren as a former model is also cited by critics as an instance of this sort of profiling. Whereas Elin has done modeling only for a negligible period, it was evidently meant to establish that she too was not a ‘chaste’ girl.

Commentators questioned why the alleged ‘mistresses’ weren’t given the benefit of committing mistakes in life as was Woods given.

Yet, the fact none of the women didn’t express the right sort of indignation at being ‘wrongly’ accused remains unanswered.

Despite many denials from Tiger Woods wife about divorce, things may not be as rosy in Woods household as they are made to look. Reports emanating from close sources say that Tiger Woods wife is seriously considering filing for divorce from her husband who cheated on her for years.

Reports indicate that Elin Nordegren, the affable wife of world’s greatest golfer is in serious discussions with her attorneys on how to initiate legal proceedings fordivorce.

It's 2017, and the undead far outnumber the living in this horror film starring Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke (TRAINING DAY). A virus has spread across the earth, turning its inhabitants into vampires. With their blood supply dwindling, the vampires must find a way to sustain their source of food.

Daybreakers is a slick action/horror that reminded me of the awesome Equilibrium in style, utilizing brand new technology to ease the life of vampires—the healthy ones that is, not those Nosferatu looking creepers starving for blood. The premise goes as follows: It is 2019 and most everyone has become a vampire. Their power and numbers become so vast that humans quickly go to the minority, hunted as cattle to use for sustenance and harvested for blood. Mankind has become extinct and although the government and scientists are working around the clock for a synthetic substitute, vampires are dying left and right.

But before they do, the starvation process mutates them into winged creatures with pointy ears and shriveled skin, resembling those creatures of the dark we might have seen years ago; definitely not the refined ones as in "True Blood". I shouldn't use that comparison too much, however, as these vamps, while intelligent creatures "living and breathing" with the only difference from humans being their need for blood and fear of the sun, are more hybrids with the legends Hollywood has created. For example, early on we see our lead Hematologist, played by Ethan Hawke, mysteriously absent from his car's sideview mirror, a myth not true in the HBO series.

Enter, Daybreakers, the new film by the Spierig brothers that stars Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill and Ethan Hawke. Daybreakers takes place in the year 2019. The world is not all that different from what it is now. People still drive cars and go to work. There are businessmen, policemen and even homeless (with signs around their neck asking for people to donate blood). What is different is that all these professions and people are vampires. Humans are in short supply and when captured, they are harvested for their blood. Humans are so scarce in fact that they account for less than 5% of the population and the blood supply that vampires need to survive has less than a months left in reserve. If a vampire begins to starve he turns into a hideous creature. A monster that cannot reason or communicate and preys on humans and vampires alike.

'World Cupp 2011' about cricketer-bookie nexus

New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) "World Cupp 2011" joins the list of movies based on sports. Debutant director-actor Ravi Kapoor claims he is all set to unveil the nexus between cricketers and bookies with the film that releases Friday.

Kapoor, who has written and produced the film himself, plays the lead in the film that also stars Zakir Hussain, Suresh Oberoi, Prem Chopra and Smita Jayakar.

Made on a budget of Rs.11 crore, "World Cupp 2011" also stars former cricket players Saba Karim and Nikhil Chopra as themselves. It is releasing with around 500 prints.

Kapoor claims to have disclosed almost all controversies that happened in the real world of cricket with the movie. The film shows how after the dance bars were closed down in Mumbai, the underworld had to focus on sports as a source of making money.

In the film, Ravi Indulkar is the captain of the Indian cricket team and he and his four team members -- Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder - fix a World Cup match against Pakistan with with a bookie called Shobhan.

The twist in the story comes when they are exposed by press reporter Balakrishnan. And Indulkar and his teammates are banned by the cricket board for four years.

Things take an interesting turn when the team's coach gives them a chance to play in World Cup 2011.

Shobhan once again tries to fix the match with Indulkar's help, but this time he refuses. In retaliation the bookie kidnaps his girlfriend and the climax entails the struggle for her rescue and Indulkar's strokes to India's victory.

Considering that the only known hits based on the game are "Lagaan" and "Jannat", it is to be seen if "World Cupp 2011" manages to attract audiences with its string of 'revelations', specially since it is the only release coming Friday

The backdrop of the film is sport

The backdrop of the film is sports. The film deals with the game of Cricket. Antagonism for World Cupp 2011, Indians team is going on and teams from different countries are participating. One of the very strong player Ravi Indulkar from India.

In the end of the last decade of the 20th century, a slow but sure dispute between gangsters created roughness in the underworld. Some very high profile people and businessman were extorted, but the media covered this news extensively and the government took a strict action against the underworld.

And the braking impact was created when home minister R.R.Patil completely banned the dance bars in Mumbai.

In such conditions when circumstances was not so good. Then underworld centralized attention on sports as a source of making money, and they aimed the most glamorous game "Cricket". Ravi Kapoor is playing the main lead, as Caption Ravi Indulkar of the Indian Cricket team. His four friends Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder, they fix a World Cupp match held in 2007 against Pakistan with a bookie- Shobhan. And then the twist as always they are exposed by press reporter Balakrishnan. BICI bans the caption Ravi Indulkar and his four teammates for four years. Ravi's girlfriend Soha (Manisha Chetterjee) also leaves him because of his deeds and in the mean while Ravi also loses his dad.

The coach once again gives chance to Ravi and his four teammates after proving their patriotism to play World Cupp 2011. Once again India faces its arch rivals Pakistan in final. Everyone has a doubt in their mind and as we know history repeat itself, king of bookies Shobhan once again tries to fix the match with the help of Ravi. This time Ravi refuses his offer, in retaliation he kidnaps Ravi's girlfriend Soha who is Physiotherapist of Indian cricket team. As soon as Ravi comes to know about Soha's kidnapping he informs the Home minister who then puts a encounter specialist on this job. The encounter specialist rescues Soha at the risk of his life. On the other hand Ravi is struggling to win World Cupp 2011.

Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year Revie

Rocket Singh isn't for everyone. It lacks those ingredients that are an integral part of most Bollywood blockbusters. Still keen? What are you waiting for, go watch it.
Like in "Wake Up Sid", Ranbir Kapoor plays a somewhat aimless guy who's just out of college wondering what to do next. That's the moment when we jump into the lives of Sid and Harpreet, so similar in their soporific world-view and yet so different in their journey from premature jadedness to premature wisdom.

Shimit Amin's earlier inspirational work "Chak De! India" was far more aggressive in its aspirations. "Rocket Singh" is a more gentle and non-cynical work. Its opinion on contemporary corruption is tinged with warmth, humour and a subtle regard for office politics seldom seen in our films.

Some may perceive "Rocket Singh" as a niche film on the politics of computer hardware. This is as shallow a reading of Shimit's cinema as looking at "Chak De!" as a hockey film.

People habituated to being spoon-fed emotions by filmmakers who think masala is what makes entertainment palatable, may find Shimit's approach to Harpreet's tale almost arrogant in its self regard and disdain for the qualities that make socially-purposeful cinema engaging to the man in the backseat.

Outwardly Shimit and his brilliant writer Jaideep Sahni, whose words move effortlessly from stinging social comment to conversational candour, don't seem to care whether the audience joins them in their scathing often frustrating sometimes humorous search for a centre to Rocket Singh's life.

But make no mistake. This film really cares about the environment of indolent debauchery that has crept into the working-class lifestyle. The office details are so dead-on in recreating the deceptive dynamism of an office-going entourage, you wonder if Ranbir, the writer and director spent quality time in a slothful hierarchy-motivated office.

Ranbir's journey from professional disgrace to redemption echoes Shah Rukh Khan's voyage from the damned to the extolled in "Chak De". Except that Ranbir's playing field is more in his mind and soul.

As the protagonist gathers together his dignity to pursue a path of honesty in his business transactions, we witness the portrait of a detoxicated working-class hero.

Ranbir brings to his part a lot of earnestness and heart. His natural and utterly contagious exuberance seen in "Wake Up Sid" and "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" is effortlessly curbed here. What we see on screen is a Sardar not quite like any of our movies have shown so far.

Who is Santa Claus?

Children are taught that he is the person who performs miracles and wonders every Christmas Eve. He is able to create and deliver virtually any present any child can imagine. He can fly through the sky and deliver these gifts to billions of children all over the world - all during one night. And not just any old presents but exactly the ones desired by each individual child. But Santa Claus is not just omnipresent, he is also all-seeing and all-knowing. He has the divine power of omniscience, and this not only on Christmas Eve but all through the year.

He sees you when you're sleepin'
He knows when you're awake,
He knows if you're been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake ...
People imagine similar powers for their god:
You see me, whether I am
working or resting;

In addition, children are taught that Santa Claus is all-good and all-just; He rewards the good children and leaves the bad ones empty handed. Perfect goodness and justice are also attributes of deity. In other words, Santa is really a god who performs miracles by his own powers. To be sure, he is a kind of childish god. He is concerned only about children, and he brings childish presents. But that's the only sort of god who could have any meaning for the young child. Adults think of their deity as the creator of all things visible and invisible, but such an entity is beyond a child's comprehension. What children can relate to is a creator of toys and goodies. While grownups characterize their god as all-holy, all merciful, all-just, all-powerful, omnipresent and infinitely perfect, this conception is too vast, nebulous and remote to have any meaning for a little child. Children from 2 to 8 - the Santa Claus years - cannot grasp such a transcendent abstraction; they can only relate to a material being. Santa is such a god-in-the-flesh - a deity tailor-made for children.

Santa has not always appeared the way we think of him today. The first well-known gift-giver was a true person--St. Nicholas. He lived in Myra (today we know it as Turkey) in about 300A.D. Born an only child of a wealthy family, he was orphaned at an early age when both parents died of the plague. He grew up in a monastery and at the age of 17 became one of the youngest priests ever. Many stories are told of his generosity as he gave his wealth away in the form of gifts to those in need, especially children. Legends tell of him either dropping bags of gold down chimneys or throwing the bags through the windows where they landed in the stockings hung from the fireplace to dry. Some years later Nicholas became a bishop--hence the bishop's hat or miter, long flowing gown, white beard and red cape. After his death he was elevated to sainthood. Eventually the Catholic Church started celebrating Christmas and St. Nicholas was incorporated into the season.

Finally, from 1931 to 1964, Haddon Sundblom created a new Santa each Christmas for Coca-Cola advertisements that appeared world-wide on the back covers of Post and National Geographic magazines. This is the Santa we know and love today with a red suit trimmed with white fur, leather boots and belt, long white beard and a pack of toys slung onto his back.
History of Santa in America:

Santa Claus can be traced back for four centuries in the U.S.:

1600's: The Puritans made it illegal to mention St. Nicolas' name. People were not allowed to exchange gifts, light a candle, or sing Christmas carols.
17th century: Dutch immigrants brought with them the legend of Sinter Klaas.
1773: Santa first appeared in the media as St. A Claus.
1804: The New York Historical Society was founded with St. Nicolas as its patron saint. Its members engaged in the Dutch practice of gift-giving at Christmas.
1809: Washington Irving, writing under the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker, included Saint Nicolas in his book "A History of New York." Nicolas is described as riding into town on a horse.
1812: Irving, revised his book to include Nicolas riding over the trees in a wagon.
1821: William Gilley printed a poem about "Santeclaus" who was dressed in fur and drove a sleigh drawn by a single reindeer.
1822: Dentist Clement Clarke Moore is believed by many to have written a poem "An Account of a Visit from Saint Nicolas," which became better known as "The Night before Christmas." Santa is portrayed as an elf with a miniature sleigh equipped with eight reindeer which are named in the poem as Blitzen, Comet, Cupid, Dancer, Dasher, Donner, Prancer, and Vixen. Others attribute the poem to a contemporary, Henry Livingston, Jr.
1841: J.W. Parkinson, a Philadelphia merchant, hired a man to dress up in a "Criscringle" outfit and climb the chimney of his store.
1863: Illustrator Thomas Nast created images of Santa for the Christmas editions of Harper's Magazine. These continued through the 1890's.
1860s: President Abraham Lincoln asked Nast to create a drawing of Santa with some Union soldiers. This image of Santa supporting the enemy had a demoralizing influence on the Confederate army -- an early example of psychological warfare.
1897: Francis P Church, Editor of the New York Sun, wrote an editorial in response to a letter from an eight year-old girl, Virginia O'Hanlon. She had written the paper asking whether there really was a Santa Claus. It has become known as the "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" letter.
1920's: The image of Santa had been standardized to portray a bearded, over-weight, jolly man dressed in a red suit with white trim.
1931: Haddon Sundblom, illustrator for The Coca-Cola ™ company drew a series of Santa images in their Christmas advertisements until 1964. The company holds the trademark for the Coca-Cola Santa design.
1949: Johnny Marks wrote the song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Rudolph was relocated to the North Pole where he was initially rejected by the other reindeer who wouldn't let him play in their reindeer games because of his strange looking nose. The song was recorded by Gene Autry and became his all-time best seller. Next to "White Christmas" it is the most popular song of all time.
1993: An urban folk tale began to circulate about a Japanese department store displaying a life-sized Santa Claus being crucified on a cross. It never happened.
1997: Artist Robert Cenedella drew a painting of a crucified Santa Claus. It was displayed in the window of the New York's Art Students League and received intense criticism from some religious groups. His drawing was a protest. He attempted to show how Santa Claus had replaced Jesus Christ as the most important personality at Christmas time.

The Theology of Santa
Santa, as taught to most children, has most of the attributes of God:

He is virtually omnipresent. He can visit hundreds of millions of homes in one night.
He is omniscient. He monitors each child; he is all-seeing and all-knowing; he knows when they are bad and good.
Although not omnipotent, he does have great powers. He can manufacture gifts for hundreds of millions of children, and deliver them in one night -- each to the correct child.
He is all-good and all-just. He judges which children have shown good behavior and rewards them appropriately. Bad children are bypassed or receive a lump of coal.
He is eternal.
He rewards good and punishes bad behavior.

However, there are negative aspects to Santa's behavior that can damage a child's self-esteem:

Christmas decoration of a house in Dublin, California

In the Western world, rolls of brightly-colored paper with secular or religious Christmas/winter/Hanukkah motifs are manufactured for the purpose of giftwrapping presents. The display of Christmas villages has also become a tradition in many homes during this season. Other traditional decorations include bells, candles, candy canes, stockings, wreaths, and angels. Snow sheets are made specifically for simulating snow under a tree or village.

In many countries a representation of the Nativity scene is very popular, and people are encouraged to compete and create most original or realistic ones. Within some families, the pieces used to make the representation are considered a valuable family heirloom. Some churches also perform a live Nativity with volunteers and even live animals.

Christmas decoration

A Christmas decoration is any of several types of decorations used at Christmastime. The traditional colours of Christmas are pine green (evergreen), snow white, and heart red. Blue and white are often used to represent winter, or sometimes Hanukkah, which occurs around the same time. Gold and silver are also very common, as are just about any other metallic colour. Typical icons of the holiday include Santa Claus, Jesus, the star of Bethlehem, and the Christian cross. Typical winter icons include snowflakes, snowmen, icicles, and even penguins and polar bear

In many countries there are many different types of decorations used depending on the traditions and available resources.

The Christmas tree is often explained as a Christianization of pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the winter solstice, which included the use of evergreen boughs, and an adaptation of pagan tree worship.[1] The English language phrase "Christmas tree" is first recorded in 1835[2] and represents an importation from the German language. The modern Christmas tree tradition is believed to have begun in Germany in the 18th century[1] though many argue that Martin Luther began the tradition in the 16th century.[3][4] From Germany the custom was introduced to England, first via Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, and then more successfully by Prince Albert during the early reign of Queen Victoria. The influential 1840's image of the Queen's decorated evergreen was republished in the U.S, and as the first widely circulated picture of a decorated Christmas tree in America, the custom there spread.[5] Christmas trees may be decorated with lights and ornaments.
